During this short series of articles a few examples of Digital Discrimination have been outlined. Hopefully you will now have an idea of what Digital Discrimination is and where you are likely to come across it.

The Internet is famed for its freedom of speech and diversity yet it has become the main source of Digital Discrimination. Freedom of speech which (in some cases) is only heard by a few listeners, surely this is an accident caused by poor design and a failure to accommodate the differences between the countless software and hardware configurations. Accident or not, the restriction of accessibility to a Web site is one of the most common forms of Digital Discrimination, solutions for which are easy to implement with a little consideration and planning along with time spent test a site using different software.

It seems ironic that a media such as the World Wide Web which has no physical boundaries, that has been created by a variety of people from different cultures has established a new form of discrimination. Perhaps diversity breeds discrimination.
