You might think that the 'list-making' routine is restrictive and that the World Wide Web needs to be explored from time to time, otherwise you'll never find out about new and exciting Web sites. This is true, to a certain extent, and indeed there are occasions that I take a more random adventure on the World Wide Web, just clicking on various links. The usually term for this would be, "surfing the Web," a phrase that I find irritating and overused.

More recently I have begun typing in random words for the domain name. (www.think-of-a-word-and-type-it-here.com and press return.) This technique takes you to some rather interesting Web sites, that you wouldn't usually come across, depending on the words you come up with. Another random way to explore the World Wide Web is to try typing in numbers instead of words, www.123.com and www.1984.com have interesting results, whereas www.101.coms has the predictable redirection to something about a certain Disney film.

Ah - Rhinehart would be pleased with these random methods.

These random techniques have the advantage of only going to sites that the creators have taken the time and expense of registering a domain name, these tend to be more professional sites, some of which do prove useful. The disadvantage is the fact that no-one would think of randomly typing www.cfm24.co.uk.

Please note that I shall not be held responsible for what you might find using this method.
